LMU applies rigorous training in the skills that are essential to the practice of the law. The law school, in just one example, requires three semesters of legal research and writing (instead of the usual two), offers a core curriculum consisting primarily of mandatory courses, and requires six credits for experiential learning. Participation in the courses is mandatory. Although LMU does not yet have a clinical program, its students work closely with Legal Aid of East Tennessee and other external opportunities. In addition, some students simply do not like traditional school. They have a hard time doing well in school because they hate reading and writing articles. They prefer to do something more active and don`t want to spend at least four years at university only to end up with an office job. Finally, you`ll also need to make sure that you can pay tuition (or take advantage of the necessary financial aid) and that class schedules are in line with your schedule. The school should also be able to estimate how many hours per week you should devote to the program, and you should make sure you are able to handle this workload or consider part-time options. This is the same reason why medical schools and other graduate programs that are essentially aimed at preparing a student for a specific career are not professional schools. On the other hand, a four-year college degree gives you many more job opportunities. There are sales, education, and consulting jobs open to four-year college graduates of various majors. In addition, you can pursue graduate schools and professional schools such as medical school and law school with a four-year university degree. On average, with more education and higher degrees, you earn more money and have more job security. If you want to improve your skills and education, but aren`t sure if a traditional four-year college is right for you, consider business school. Attending a vocational school can be a great option for those who want to get the training they need to find a good job quickly. LMU`s law school, which is now fully accredited by the American Bar Association, has a relatively small enrollment (approximately 265 students), with both full-time and part-time studies.
Through low enrollment and a focus on hands-on learning, LMU provided cash transition rates for its graduates at or above the national average for other ABA-approved law schools (as opposed to many other «lower» schools elsewhere) and a reported employment rate of 96% for the class of 2015. Sometimes family or financial situations make it too difficult for students to spend four years in school, so they decide to take a much shorter program at a business school. I applaud the comment, but I note that the hiring biases of law firms like Latham and Watkins are another piece of the puzzle: If they stubbornly refuse to hire someone from a law school* worse than Michigan, for example, how will legal education reform ever succeed? He already implicitly admits that education reform will not be a top-down process after all. While vocational schools offer some advantages, there are significant drawbacks, especially compared to traditional 4-year colleges.
