Ohio Legal Intern License

Students who have completed 60 credit hours may be eligible to obtain certification from the Ohio Supreme Court to represent individuals in civil or criminal matters, subject to certain limitations and limitations. The student must be «employed by or affiliated with a legal clinic, legal aid office, public defense attorney`s office, or other legal aid organization that primarily provides legal assistance to persons in financial need or is responsible for handling civil cases or prosecuting criminal offense cases for the State of Ohio or a municipal corporation.» Rule II, Section 1(3), the Ohio Supreme Court rules on behalf of the Ohio Bar Association. The rules for representation in legal practice are available here and should be read by all students applying for an articling certificate when determining admission requirements, application process, scope of representation, and other related matters. Submit your completed Certificate of Educational Requirements for Limited Practice as Legal Intern form to the Archives Office at academic.servicesnull@law.csuohio.nulledu for processing and filing with the court. To apply, you must submit three forms and pay a $25 fee by certified cheque or money order. See Regulation II, Section 3. All three forms can be downloaded here.
