All of this can be very complex, and that`s why many owners and crew members choose not to carry weapons on board, but opt for other defensive measures such as non-lethal weapons and water cannons. However, if you want weapons on board, here are some recommendations. I will not comment on the legality of entering foreign ports with a weapon, as I am not qualified to preach. The legislation also requires federal officials, through the International Maritime Organization, to work together to enter into arrangements that create similar legal protection for foreign waters. 1b) If I felt that I had to have the weapons even in these waters, then perhaps I should have chosen a better place to refuel. Over the years, I have participated in and listened to many interesting and lively (often «heated») debates about whether to carry firearms aboard a cruise ship. Outside of anchoring, nothing seems to generate more passion than this important topic. I will try to keep my opinions and prejudices to myself and provide some of the basic information that can help you refine your thinking on the topic. Although licensed vessels are allowed to possess weapons, seafarers can be charged if they suffer damage or injury as a result of their use, a particularly fragile situation when in foreign waters. Although the original bill died on the Order Paper in committee, key elements of the bill were incorporated into the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2010, signed into law by President Obama. What you should always keep in mind is that the things we take for granted as Americans, such as our «right to bear arms,» can vary greatly once you set foot in international waters. But it`s even more complicated than that. To truly understand the legal complexities of transporting weapons aboard seagoing vessels, you must first look at maritime law and then international law, and as with shore-based transport, even state and local laws can come into play.
If you own a motor yacht, chances are you`re traveling abroad. In general, each country has its own gun laws. In some areas, cruising with weapons on board is completely legal, in others it could be a misdemeanor or misdemeanor, and in other parts of the world, it could land you or your crew in jail! In almost all parts of the world, you must at least declare all weapons on your boat. Colombia: travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p…/cis_1090.html Colombian law prohibits tourists and business travelers from bringing firearms into Colombia. Illegal importation and/or possession of firearms is punishable by three to ten years` imprisonment. As a retired SEAL, I find the comments on weapon selection absolutely hilarious. If you want to own a weapon from a safe distance and know how to use an M4/AR variant. Regarding the legality of owning this rifle during the cruise, TALK TO A MARITIME LAWYER (and keep his card lol). The reality of the pirate situation is such that you will lose an ongoing battle against any moderately armed pirate group. You are more than likely in a fiberglass boat… Make the math man Friggin.
You have NO chance against an RPG with a selected projectile. An anti-person bullet not only turns you into a soup sandwich, but leaves your boat in pieces, not to mention anti-tank cartridges. Who will steer the boat while you ram it with two skiffs filled with skinnies? Or do you lie down to get rid of hate and become a relatively stationary target? Or maybe you`ll ask your wife or child to fly in the middle of a firefight? The best possible solution is to NOT GO WHERE THE PIRATES ARE! If you think a shotgun is protection against hackers, you`re wrong. You`ll be dead 300 meters away before you can even get involved. If you think that a skinny person with an RPK or PKM is not a capable opponent, you are seriously mistaken and you and your family will suffer the consequences. Even with an AR, you`re done before it even starts. It`s not worth being a partner. Don`t go where the hackers are. If you want to carry a gun, make sure you molt yourself that cars smoke, but don`t think for a second that you`re going to scare the pirates with it. Doing like that is a lot of work for guys like me. Take a few minutes to watch some of the videos on YouTube featuring professional maritime entrepreneurs (play retired SEALS or similar) hiring pirates. The skinny usually get along well.
What for? Because they don`t realize they`re engaged (it`s noisy on a fast skiff). The other reason is that they know damn well how hard they are to hit. Don`t put your family in a situation that you are not trained or equipped for. The world is an unjust evil place. Just stay in relatively safe waters. If you want to arm yourself or your team with handguns against what you might think of watching movies, I would recommend revolver instead of automatic. Automatic transmissions are too prone to jamming and are also illegal in more places than revolvers. A revolver is inherently safe, and if a bullet fails, another trigger move will be instinctive and fire and fire the next round.
