Nmc Requirements of Good Health and Good Character

We ask people to complete a series of declarations regarding their health and morals in each application for registration (including readmission and validation). This helps us decide if they meet our requirements. Good character is important and is at the heart of the NMC Code, as nurses, caregivers and midwives must be honest and trustworthy. Your statement also includes the option to inform the NMC of upcoming police charges or warnings. Read our guide to health and character to learn more about how we assess health and character in applications. This guide tells you when to inform us about relevant health issues and character issues. We`ve created additional health and character guides to explain the following: Read our guide to health and character to learn what you need to disclose and when to disclose it. You are expected to be in a state of health that allows you to practice safely and effectively without supervision after your employer has made the appropriate adjustments. This does not mean that there does not have to be a disability or health problem. We do this in accordance with the health and morality standards set out in our Code.

We consider each request on a case-by-case basis, taking into account all relevant circumstances and information. We may ask you for more information to help us make decisions.
