The FIA decision concluded that the rear brake channels «were designed to a large extent by Mercedes». Mercedes had admitted to providing information about its 2019 brake channels as they were not listed at the time. However, a subsequent rule change for 2020 meant that the brake channels had to be redesigned from scratch. The FIA confirmed that if Racing Point had questioned whether rear brake channels could be used on their car in 2019, they would have been told it was not legal. Although the team has been working with the FIA on its design, it has not asked the governing body about its braking channels. In a decision announced Friday at the Silverstone circuit, the FIA beat Racing Point with a 15-point penalty and a fine of just over $500,000 for breaching the sport`s sporting regulations regarding the design of its 2020 cars. Nevertheless, the car was considered legal for racing. Racing Point is a customer team for the conquering Mercedes engine and also uses part of the Mercedes chassis design under license. The disgruntled Renault team has therefore focused its protests on some of the parts that the teams are not allowed to share. This has raised concerns among several teams, including Ferrari, while Renault has gone so far as to protest Racing Point`s braking channels, saying they go beyond copying photos and illegal use of Mercedes data – a protest the FIA maintained on Friday morning. In the 2016 season, Mercedes won the constructors` championship for the third consecutive year, winning 19 of the 21 races contested and taking 20 pole positions (the highest percentage in a single F1 season at 95.2%) and 8 1-2. [32] The average victory gap with the nearest non-Mercedes driver dropped to 14.6 seconds. Rosberg won his only drivers` championship by 5 points over Hamilton before announcing his retirement shortly after winning the title.
[33] . but despite sending 15 points, «the pink Mercedes» will continue to use the fraudulent parts. Huh? The Renault F1 team, which has protested Racing Point`s entries after each of the last three Formula 1 races, claimed the 2020 Racing Point car was designed and built as a copy of the 2019 Mercedes F1 inscription. The braking channels of the cars were highlighted as the center of the demonstration. However, this is not the end of the story. The FIA says the fine and points deduction is enough of a penalty for Racing Point to have learned its lesson, and that the team can continue to use ex-Merc components on its car for the remainder of the 2020 season. And this car was much more competitive than the current Renault. It`s going to be uncomfortable, guys.
As a result, Racing Point – which is partly owned by Aston Martin investor Lawrence Stroll (whose son Lance drives for the team) – has dropped to 6th place in the 2020 F1 Constructors` Championship, five points behind Renault. For the 2015 season, the team retained Hamilton and Rosberg. [29] At the 2015 Russian Grand Prix, the team won its second constructors` world championship as a factory team[30] and Hamilton won its second consecutive drivers` championship at the 2015 United States Grand Prix, 59 points ahead of Rosberg. Mercedes continued its dominance in this second year of the V6 turbo era, improving on its impressive 2014 numbers with 18 pole positions, 16 wins and 12 1-2 in 19 races. Of their 16 race wins, the average lead over the nearest non-Mercedes competitor was 19.7 seconds, up from 23.2 seconds in 2014. [31] The Racing Point team was fined by the FIA after being found guilty of illegally copying part of last year`s Mercedes car. However, ahead of the 70th anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend, other teams reacted angrily that the team would be allowed to continue using their car and parts considered illegal this season. Both pilots have been selected for 2014. Rosberg won the first race of the season in Australia, then Hamilton completed a Grand Slam in Malaysia – each lap from pole position with the fastest race lap – while Rosberg completed a 1-2 finish for the team; It ended Hamilton`s run of nine times without a podium and was Mercedes` first 1-2 result as a factory team since the 1955 Italian Grand Prix.
The team repeated the result at the Bahrain, China and Spanish Grands Prix, while Rosberg and Hamilton each won 1-2 at the Monaco and Austrian Grands Prix. At the German Grand Prix, Rosberg became the first German driver with a German car to win the German Grand Prix since he was hit by Rudolf Caracciola and Mercedes-Benz at the German Grand Prix in 1939. At the Russian Grand Prix, the team won its first constructors` world championship as a works team. Hamilton won the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. He finished the season 67 points ahead of Rosberg and won the drivers` world championship. The team finished the 2014 season 296 points ahead of its closest rival, Red Bull Racing, in the Constructors` World Championship.[27] With 18 pole positions, 16 wins and 11 1:2 in 19 races, Mercedes dominated the first year of the V6 turbo era. With their 16 race wins, the average advantage over the nearest non-Mercedes competitor was 23.2 seconds. Mercedes-Benz competed in the Grand Prix as early as the 1930s, when the Silver Arrows dominated racing alongside rivals Auto Union.[28] Both teams were heavily funded by the Nazi regime and won every European championship after 1934, of which Rudolf Caracciola won three for Mercedes-Benz.
[8] Mercedes admitted to providing Racing Point with its detailed drawings and computer design of the brake channels last year, as allowed under the 2019 rules. However, from 2020 this was banned, so Racing Point stumbled through the rule change. He was fined €400,000 (around £360,000) and awarded 15 valuable league points. The team launched its «two-axis steering» system during pre-season testing for the 2020 season. This allows the driver to change the lane of the front wheels by pressing or pulling on the steering wheel. This allows the driver to optimise the car for better tyre warm-up on straights without a foottrack or better mechanical grip in positive corners. The system was licensed for the 2020 season, but was declared illegal for 2021. The team won both the drivers` and constructors` championships.[43] [44] Prior to the penultimate race of the season, the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, Hamilton had to miss the race after testing positive for coronavirus, with Williams driver and Mercedes junior George Russell replacing him.[44] McLaren boss Zak Brown, whose team appealed the decision, was devastating in his assessment. «They claimed to have copied the car photographically. It is clear from reading the document which is BS. So you have to question everything else in the car. I fear that they still have what was considered illegal in Austria, on the race car.
I think it`s confusing for the fans. No further penalties are expected on this this season.
